When it comes to dessert in my house, I am in the camp of – if it’s easy and suits my gluten-free dairy-free diet, I’ll try it. My husband is in the camp of – if it’s chocolate, he’ll eat it. And my son is in the camp of – if it’s sweet, it’s in his mouth 5 minutes ago.
I don’t make a ton of desserts in my house, but throughout this past winter, I’ve gotten into more of a habit of trying to make more of them at home. But of course, when I make them – I give myself a few criteria to go off of:
- It must taste good
- It must be remotely healthy for me – if I’m going to eat more than one serving, even over the course of a few days
- It must not take a long time to put together
- It must not require 100 ingredients to make
Since the holiday season, I decided that if I was going to stay on track with my gluten and dairy-free diet, one of the easiest ways for me to do that was to make sure that I wasn’t feeling deprived at all.
That’s a big deal when you have food intolerances and a limited diet. I never feel like I’m going without the things that everyone else is having. It sucks to be the outsider – or worse, be the insider and feeling terrible.
I’ve made a dessert about once a week or once every two weeks since then. It’s been working out really well. I’ve actually noticed that I’m eating a lot LESS sugar when I make sure that what I make has some nutritional benefit for me.
My son seems to be self-regulating his sugar consumption a lot better. Plus, it gives my family something to do on the super rainy days where we don’t want to venture out to the park and get soaked.

I wanted to put together this list of 5-ingredient or less gluten-free dairy-free desserts not only for you – but as a handy reference for myself.
It’s actually funny, when I started working on this post – I was going to make it any and all kinds of desserts that were 5 ingredients or less.
But it got so massive that I decided that since we mainly eat chocolate desserts around here, that this post was going to be narrowed down to the chocolate category only. I’ll get to those cookies and fruit desserts another day!
Of course, since these recipes are dairy-free, you’ll want to be sure that any time a recipe calls for chocolate chips that you choose dairy-free chocolate chips, like the Enjoy Life chocolate chips that I usually reach for. They are super versatile and taste just like any other semi-sweet chocolate chips out there!
With that in mind, here are the top 10 ingredients you’ll want to make sure you have on hand in your gluten-free dairy-free pantry so you can whip up these chocolate desserts any night of the week:
- Dairy-free chocolate chips
- Cacao powder
- Cocoa powder
- Coconut oil
- Coconut milk
- Almond butter
- Peanut butter
- Vanilla extract
- Honey
- Peppermint Extract
I’ve found 25 awesome gluten-free dairy-free 5-ingredient or less chocolate recipes just for you. I’m dividing them up into five sections: brownies, candy, fudge, ice cream, and pudding, mousse, and dips (that’s all one section).
There’s some amazing recipes here – and if you’re a huge chocolate lover like me, I hope you find something quick, tasty, and healthy in this roundup!
One of my little secrets is that I carry around a copy of my GFDF Take Along Cards so that I always have a point of reference when I can sneak a peek at the ingredient list of a food.
